The stage distances — especially before GPS became commonplace — are estimates, so these paces should be treated as indicative; however, since GPS became widely used they are more credible. Net elevation change is the difference between the elevation at the finish and the elevation at the start, using the OS Grid references in the WCR Handbook. If you have Garmin GPX files for any stage I would love a copy to show actual climb.
